In Japan, some promotional figures were also offered through mail aways or by buying certain sets. Most premium figures were repaints such as Clear Carp, Clear Gator, Stone Cobra and Striped Carp. The mail away Skull Grotess was a completely original figure. 

Clear Gator and Sunburst Lion were obtained by buying a Japanese 10-pack figure set which would contain one of the unkowne figures. The Stone Cobra could only be obtained by mailing two halves of the “Stone Tablet.” Each hald was found in the Japanese Fire Phoenix set (Blazing Eagle set) and the Sunburst Lion set. The Stone Cobra was sent out in two waves due to larger demand than expected. the first had no rub and the second wave had a sticker that had Pirate Lion’s (White Leo’s) face on it. 

The clear and striped carps could be found int he Japanese “Punch Box” set. This was a box that was covered up and the owner had to “punch” the covers to find a figure. The Striped Carp was much rarer that the clear version. 

The Skull Grotess figure could be bought through a mail-away offer. An order form for the figure could be found in all single figure pakages sold in Japan.
