ACTION FORCE 1985 (THIRD SERIES)

Hovercraft

Hovercraft

Captained by “Cutter,” the Action Force Hovercraft holds up to nine troopers. Armament consists of twin elevating cannons, two rotating machine-guns, two pivoting missile-launchers, six depth charges. Other features include landing ramp, and surveillance motor cycle.

The Hovercraft was the largest Action Force vehicle. It could hold up to nine figures and more could easily be fitted on if needed! It came with the figure Cutter. It had lots of features!

  • A button at the rear could be pressed and this would make the two propellers go around.
  • Another button at the front launches the sled from the front of the vehicle. A figure could be placed on the sled.
  • A ramp comes down to reveal where the sled is stored
  • There is a cockpit for Cutter to stand in. He is surrounded by some glass and has a control panel.
  • There are two gunner stations and figures could be placed in these as shown below.
  • There are two side guns that move up and down.
  • There are also two missile launchers on the sides. These hold four missiles each and can be moved up, down and around.
  • The front opens up to reveal an area where figures can be seated and it also creates a landing ramp.
  • At the rear there are some fins that could move from side to side (these are very fragile)
  • Six depth charges were present at the rear and they could be deployed by moving a lever up.
  • A cycle was stored at the back and a figure could be placed on this.
  • Underneath the vehicle there are four wheels so that the vehicle can be pushed along.
  • Also under the vehicle is a compartment to store parts. This has a removable cover.

The Hovercraft came with a large number of parts and accessories. It can be very hard to find complete and parts can be expensive. The rear of the vehicle had some fins that moved side to side. These are notorious for breaking and are very hard to find complete.

The Palitoy version of the vehicle is a lighter shade of green to the G.I. Joe version.

SMALL VEHICLES INCLUDED

The Hovercraft came with a cycle that could be stored at the back by placing the two wheels in two indentations (next to the depth charges).

A sled was also included and this was stored in a hole behind the lower ramp at the front. When a white button was pressed the sled could be launched out. The sled had its own window screen. A figure could be laid into the sled to drive it.

PARTS

The Hovercraft came with a lot of different parts and needed a lot of assembly! It included eight missiles, 2 missile launcher holding bars, 2 missile launchers with two missile dividers, six depth charges, surveillance cycle, landing ramp, two machine guns, two machine gun turrets, two cannons, two cannon covers, control console, window screen for drivers cockpit, window screen for the cycle, four wheels, two propellers, and 10 parts for the two rear fins.

FIGURE

Included Figure- Cutter

The Cutter figure was included with the Hovercraft vehicle. Click on his picture to see his guide.

FIN PARTS

The fin parts are quite notorius in the colelctor communities! The fin parts can be very difficult to find in one piece as they are easily broken. I have added some pictures to show how these are assembled. The first picture below shows how they are put together. The first picture shows one set and you would need two in total (one for each side). The other pictures the individual parts that you need for each side.

PACKAGING

The Hovercraft came boxed with the Cutter figure.

G.I. JOE U.S. RELEASE

In 1984 the G.I. Joe Killer Whale was released as part of the G.I. Joe toy line. The G.I. Joe version was a darker shade of green. It also had a different name to the Action Force version and had different stickers and a different box to the Action Force version.

DATAFILE

Datafiles could be found in the Battle Action Force and Action Force comics. They contained lots of information about the vehicles and characters and had some great artwork.
