ACTION FORCE 1985 (THIRD SERIES)

DOLPHIN (VERSION 2

Dolphin (version 2)

Sealion Commander.

Birthplace: Cardiff, Wales

An expert in underwater solo attack and deep sea exploration. Dolphin has benefitted from superb formal training with the British Royal Navy. He was the youngest man ever to take command of a nuclear submarine prior to joining Action Force.

Dolphin version 2 came exclusively boxed with the Sealion version 2 vehicle. He was a repaint of the GI Joe figure Zap. He came with a bazooka, backpack, helmet and visor.

He was only available in Europe and is now a highly sought after figure. He is difficult to find complete and can be very expensive! The bazooka looks similar to one that can be found in an accessory pack so be careful if you are looking for one! Below I have written about some similarities with other figures and parts that you need to be aware of when looking for this figure. There are some unscrupulous sellers out there!

Body Mould

Dolphin has webbing that goes across his chest and back. He has black pockets on his biceps and the outside of his thighs. He has black boots with grey laces detailed.

The Dolphin version one looks very much like and underwater specialist. It could be argued that the Dolphin version two mould does not look like he was made for underwater combat!

ACCESSORIES

Dolphin came with a bazooka, backpack, helmet and helmet visor. The backpack has rockets moulded into it which would be ammo for the bazooka. It seems strange that an underwater specialist would have a bazooka but it still looks good!

PACKAGING

Dolphin (V2) came exclusively boxed with the  Sealion version 2 vehicle.

LOOKS FAMILIAR

Dolphin version 2 has the same arms, body, crotch and legs as Moondancer version 2. They also came with the same backpackhelmet and visor. Moondancer was a repaint of the G.I. Joe figure Short Fuze. Dolphin’s head is a repaint of the Grunt figure.

Dolphin’s head is the same mould as the Infantryman but it has a different hair colour. Be aware of this if you are looking to purchase this figure.

Dolphin’s bazooka looks similar to a G.I. Joe accessory pack version but they are not the same! Be careful when looking for one!

G.I. JOE U.S. RELEASE

Despite being released in the U.K. in 1985, Dolphin was never released as a figure in the U.S.

Dolphin was a repaint of the G.I. Joe figure Zap who was released in the U.S. in 1982 (straight arm version) and 1983 (swivel arm version).

DATAFILE

Datafiles could be found in the Battle Action Force comics. They contained lots of information about the characters and had some great artwork.
