COMMANDER (VERSION ONE)

COMMANDER

The Commander, was the first mail order figure from the Action Force line. To get the Commander you had to collect five medals from the figure card backs and stick them to a form. The form was sent off to Palitoy with some money to cover postage and then a free Commander figure was sent to you.

The Commander came with a small blue revolver gun and they can be hard to find as they are so small. The Commander would come in a small box from the Palitoy company.

The medals had numbers on them which corresponded to each individual figure. This would also help the company get good market research to see which figures were most popular.

The Commander figure was based on the original Action Man Talking Commander figure. He was released as part of the first twelve figures in the early summer of 1982.

Body Mould

The Commander has a moulded peaked cap with a badge. He has a straight belt with a gun holster on his left hip. A second versioncame with a zip and pocket on his chest (similar to the Helicopter Pilot chest).

ACCESSORIES

The Commander came with a small blue revolver. This was a very small weapon and many have been lost over the years. They can be difficult to find.

PACKAGING

The Commander figure came exclusively by mail order. Each figure had a form on the back of the card and one medal with a number in it. Five medals could be attached to the form and sent off to get a Commander figure. The Commander would arrive in a box similar to the one below.

File Card

The Commander figure did not have a card back or medal number.

VARIANTS

The first version has a plain jacket front. The second version has zips and pockets on the jacket front.

The same mould was used for the second series Z Force Commander and the Black Major. The Action Man toyline has a Commander figure and outfit that this figure was based on.
