ACTION FORCE 1983-1984 (second SERIES)

SAS BLADES (HAWK)

Codename: Blades

Personal Name: Herbert J Rotweiler

Action Force Number: AF 342153

Primary Military Speciality: Airborne Rapid Strike

Secondary Military Speciality: Close Quarters Battle Flying

Birthplace: American mid West

Kids called him “mother’s boy” at school, but Action Force training turned him into one mean individual. Now a world renowned Airstrike pilot, with a reputation for keeping a cool head in a crisis. Subsidiary training in small arms weaponry- can tell you a rifle’s calibre from 30 paces.

“Still goes home to see his mother after every tour of duty. Loves American apple pie.”

Blades came with the Hawk helicopter vehicle (a repaint of the G.I. Joe Fang vehicle). He was one of the figures with full arm articulation. He was a repaint of the G.I Joe figure Tripwire. He can be very hard to find with the SAS emblem still in tact on his chest.

Blades did not have a datafile, but his character information could be found on the instructions that came with the Hawk helicopter.

My YouTube video of Blades is here.

Body Mould

Blades has a moulded helmet and visor. Although he was a repaint of Tripwire (a mine sweeper) the helmet and visor do look good on a helicopter Pilot and work well. His face often has scratches and he is often missing paint from his nose. The chest has the SAS emblem on it and again this is notorious for being missing. The figure is hard to find with a good SAS emblem. He has a gun in a holster on his right leg.

ACCESSORIES

Blades did not come with any accessories. He was later released as a U.S. convention exclusive with Tripwire’s accessories.

PACKAGING

The SAS Blades figure came boxed exclusively with the Hawk vehicle.

File Card

Information about the figure could be found on the back of the figures file card (the Datafile information). Each figure also had an individual medal number for the mail order offer. Blades did not have a medal number.

INSTRUCTIONS

Blades did not have a datafile, but his character information could be found on the instructions that came with the Hawk helicopter. Click on the picture to the right to take a look.

VARIANTS

Blades was a repaint of the G.I. Joe figure Tripwire who was released in Action Force series three.

G.I. JOE U.S. RELEASE

Despite being released in the U.K. in 1983-1984 as Blades. The G.I Joe Tripwire figure was first released in the U.S. in 1983.

DATAFILE

Datafiles could be found in the Battle Action Force comics. They contained lots of information about the characters and had some great artwork. Blades did not have a datafile, but his character information could be found on the instructions that came with the Hawk helicopter.
