There are two versions of the spear. One is a slightly darker brown colour than the other.
One version of the spear is the Hong Kong (Smile factory) type which is where the no coo (no country of origin) Wicket and Romba were made.This is the spear shown on the right.
The other is the Taiwan factory (Universal Manufacturers) which was packaged with the TW Wicket. The TW spear is a darker shade of brown. The TW spear also has more detail. This is shown on the left.
SPOTTING REPRO
There are different ways to spot reproduction spears. Many will look and feel different. They will also make a different sound to vintage items when dropped on a hard surface. The sound test can be sometimes be difficult for everyone to use though.
The original vintage Star Wars spears float in water. Many reproductions will sink in water. They are plastic and have some bend in them but are not rubbery like some reproductions. Some reproductions are also very stiff with not much bend.
Many reproductions have been painted and so sometimes it is worth rubbing the spear carefully on paper to see if any paint marks are left as this will help to show a reproduction. Painted reproductiin spears tend to look more shiny than the vintage ones.
