In 1980 the Empire Strikes Back hit cinemas. Kenner was better prepared this time, and 29 action figures were released.The previous 21 figures were also re-released. The total action figure line was now at 50!

The Cloud City Playset was another Sears exclusive that came with four figures. 

1980 saw the release of the final larger scale figure IG-88. Unfortunately sales of the larger figures were not good and so the line was cancelled. Kenner had planned to release more of the larger figures.

This was the last year that new die-cast were produced too due to poor sales. This years releas eincluded the Rebel Snow Speeder, Slace 1, the Tie Bomber and the Twin Pod Cloud Car.
