ACTION FORCE 1983-1984 (SECOND SERIES)

SAS hawk

Hawk

The Hawk helicopter was a one man helicopter that came with the figure Blades. It came with four missiles and a bomb.

The same helicopter was used for the 1985 Action Force Cobra FANG toy.

The Hawk helicopter was a repaint of the G.I. Joe F.A.N.G. helicopter. The Hawk was painted in nice black and yellow colours fitting in nicely with the SAS team. It came with the figure Blades who is a repaint of the G.I. Joe Tripwire figure. Blades is very hard to get with his chest logo still present.

Hawk came with four yellow missiles that fitted on the sides and a grey missile that fitted underneath. The missiles could be quite difficult to put in place. There were figure foot pins on both sides of the helicopter so that two figures could stand on it for a ride (although they would be standing in front of the missiles).

The rotor blades and tail blades both span round. This vehicle can be hard to get complete. It is often found damaged as the rotor blades broke easily. The yellow engine cover (just like FANG’s red one) was also prone the breaking easily.

PACKAGING

The S.A.S. Hawk came boxed with the Blades figure.

VARIANTS

The Hawk helicopter was a repaint of the G.I. Joe F.A.N.G. The F.A.N.G. helicopter was released in series three with a Cobra figure in 1985.

Due to surplus some Hawk helicopters were packaged as the FANG helicopter and still had the yellow colours (from being originally made as Hawk helicopters). This is one of the reasons why you will sometimes come across Hawk helicopters with Cobra stickers on them.

G.I. JOE U.S. RELEASE

In 1983 the F.A.N.G. was released as part of the G.I. Joe toy line. It had different stickers and a different box to the Hawk helicopter.

Blades was released in 1983 and 1984. Despite being released in the U.K. in 1985, the figure Tripwire was first released in the U.S. in 1983.

DATAFILE

Datafiles could be found in the Battle Action Force comics. They contained lots of information about the vehicles and characters and had some great artwork. Blades did not have a datafile.

I found what I believe is a fan made datafile online.
